I love our military community! My husband flew with Captain Gaul during this first duty station in Jacksonville, FL, which feels like a bazillion years ago now! They were part of the same helicopter squadron and stationed there for almost 3 years. Fast forward to our move to Alexandria, Erin reached out to me to ask if I would photograph his retirement ceremony. It was an easy yes, and felt like such a full-circle moment.
Not only was this a wonderful milestone to document, but I loved catching up with the whole family again. The last time I saw them, their kids were tiny tots! It’s always so surreal when you reconnect with a military family years later and realize just how much has changed.
The retirement ceremony took place at the Sailor’s Loft at the Washington Navy Yard, where Captain Gaul celebrated the completion of his final tour as the Naval Base Commander of the Navy Yard. All of their friends and family were there to celebrate this huge milestone. Military ceremonies are always full of tradition and meaningful moments, but what makes them so unique and memorable is seeing all of the people behind the career!
