This military promotion ceremony in Washington, D.C. was such a fun, meaningful day! Captain Gonzales wanted her promotion ceremony to be about more than just the ceremony itself. Since she attended law school in New Orleans before her Navy career, she wanted to bring a little bit of New Orleans to Washington, D.C. with a traditional New Orleans 2nd Line Band.
After the ceremony at the U.S. Navy Memorial, the band led the procession to the reception at Clyde’s, a few blocks away. The music was awesome and everyone was cheering and waving handkerchiefs, something you don’t see every day in Washington, D.C.!
The lively celebration even caught the attention of people walking by. Bystanders stopped to take pictures, cheer, and dance to the music. It quickly became one of the most memorable parts of the day!
The guest list for this promotion ceremony was extensive- they had over 100 attendees! So many of the people in attendance have played a meaningful role in her life and career, and it was really special to hear stories of how they have each impacted her life. Even with the high D.C. summer heat index, the day felt incredibly joyful and celebratory!
I love military ceremonies for so many reasons, but I especially appreciate the creativity and intention that goes into planning events like these. It’s fun to see all of the personal touches mingled in with the military traditions. For Captain Gonzales, that meant bringing a piece of New Orleans to Washington, D.C., and it made for an unforgettable celebration.
