This client reached out to me last fall about booking a spring session for her son’s high school senior photos in northern Virginia. We planned for late march, hoping that it would be perfect timing with everything in bloom! We were hoping for blooms, soft light, and early spring weather. Luck was on our side for this session! The weather was warm and sunny leading up to our session making it a perfect condition for an early spring session.
As a northern Virginia photographer, spring is one of my favorite times of the year to photograph seniors and families. There’s something about the weather, the soft color of cherry blossom season, and feelings of growth and change that makes every session feel a little more meaningful.
This session originally started with plans for a nearby park, but in her heart C’s mom really wanted the session to be somewhere more meaningful tied to many memories of C’s childhood. Instead of choosing a traditional location, we focused on their home and neighborhood, where so much of C’s story took place.
One of the most important requests was capturing her son on the tree swing in their yard. It’s a simple detail, but filled with years of memories. She shared how he spent countless hours on this swing growing up, and being able to document that part of his childhood felt so special!
Continuing on the tour of C’s childhood, we also spent time walking through their neighborhood, stopping at familiar places along the way. From their own yard to the neighborhood pool and park, each location adds more to C’s story.
He was such a great sport throughout the entire session, and we even included a few photos to showcase his love for playing baseball. Little personal details like this make photographing high school seniors so much fun. This was such a sentimental session and I really loved connecting with this family!
Senior sessions like this are a reminder that the most meaningful photos don’t always take place at the most popular locations. Sometimes the best sessions happen in the places where life is actually lived and hold the most meaning.
