One of my favorite parts about being a photographer is getting to know families and being a part of their major milestones. I first met Maeve and her family while we were living in Naples, Italy. Our children attended the same Italian school and became fast friends. Since this was their family’s second tour in Naples, they knew all of the hidden treasure spots, and our families spent so much time exploring together. It has been such a blast reconnecting them while living in D.C.!
I’ve had the absolute pleasure of photographing this family over the years, starting with Maeve’s older sister Fiona in Ravello, Italy, and then again for her senior session recently at The University of Virginia. Being able to photograph Maeve now felt incredibly full-circle.
Old Town Alexandria offers a beautiful mix of history, charm, and variety- from brick-lined streets to colorful doors and iconic landmarks. It’s an ideal backdrop for senior photos in Old Town, especially when the location itself is part of the senior’s story.
Old Town holds a very special place in Maeve’s heart. As an active duty military family, they have been stationed all over the world, but they have always come back to visit their grandparents in Old Town multiple times a year.
Maeve had a few special requests for her senior session. She wanted to stop by her favorite childhood park, have her portrait taken on the steps of her grandparents’ home, and of course, capture photos at the iconic Wilkes Street Tunnel. Incorporating these personal locations helped Maeve tell her story in a way that was natural and true to herself.
