As a high school senior photographer, I find so much joy in photographing seniors during this in-between season: college decisions are made, plans are being finalized, and graduation is on the horizon. Many seniors are just starting to truly think about the real world, and exploring where their passions and interests might take them. Everything becomes so real!
Z has been so excited to announce her college decision! She has been visiting several different schools to help her narrow down her options. Once she made her final decision, she was ready to celebrate it in a big way with senior photos!
The morning of Z’s senior session was definitely a cold one, but she showed up ready for her Old Town senior photos! With all of the senior festivities approaching, keeping the original time worked best with her schedule. Z was such a trooper with the cold morning. She said she was used to it from playing soccer in extreme temps.
Luckily the sun finally warmed everything up and rewarded us with beautiful lighting!
Old Town Alexandria is one of those locations that is just so versatile for so many different types of sessions. The mix of brick sidewalks, ivy-covered walls, beautiful landscaping, and quiet waterfront offers so much variety without ever having to walk very far.
I especially love it for senior photos because it feels both personal and timeless. Every street has a slightly different feel, which makes galleries feel really dynamic without needing a million different locations.

After months of visiting different schools and narrowing down her decision, Z officially committed to Duke University! Once her choice had been made she was ready to announce it to her friends and family. What better way than with senior photos? We pulled in some props for her to use to announce her decision and to commemorate this special time.
If you’re a rising senior (or a parent starting to think ahead), it’s never too early to start planning your senior photos. The best locations and dates tend to book up quickly, especially for spring in northern Virginia.
If you’re looking for a northern Virginia senior photographer who will help you tell your story in a way that’s true to you, I’d love to connect and start dreaming something up with you!
