I first met the Stewart family while we were stationed in Coronado, CA! I photographed Sam’s newborn session in their home eleven years ago. Life, the military, and new duty stations took us in different directions, but photography has a beautiful way of bringing everything full circle!
The Stewarts recently relocated to Washington D.C. (thanks, Navy!), and Emily reached out as soon as they received their orders. She wanted the inside scoop on best neighborhoods and rental housing in the DMV (D.C., Maryland, Virginia) area- something military spouses know all too well!
Seeing Sam now as a handsome young man truly filled my heart. Meeting his sister for the first time and seeing their beautiful family grow made the session even more special. Moments like this are such a reminder of why I love what I do. Reconnecting with families years later, watching their children grow, and capturing new seasons of life is the best part of my job!
To kick off their new chapter in D.C., the Stewarts wanted some new family photos in a distinctive location and we chose the Jefferson Memorial. It’s a timeless, meaningful location- classic, peaceful, and full of history. The stone steps, tall columns, and peeps of The Washington Monument make the perfect backdrop for iconic family photos.
As a Northern Virginia family photographer, I love how this location offers beautiful light, open space, and endless possibilities that don’t distract from what matters most- the people in front of the camera!
One of the things I love most about military life is how tight the relationships can be and how connected we remain, no matter how much time has passed.
